Hey Terrell great post! I would say I agree to disagree :) I feel that what you want in life is enhanced off of the media and the different images you see but it's up to the person as to how far they take it. I mean I didn't have to look at TV to know I want a NICE car or look at TV to know that I want a BIG house. Now on the flip side I along with millions will look at the media, mags, books, etc. and like boots, clothes, jewerly, however, I would never want to be the person on the TV in the mags, etc. But I see what you are saying......

ReplyDeleteGood post, but I don't necessarily equate success, happiness or fufillment with material or stimulating objects. Myself being a father and a family man, success is based on whether or not I'm able to provide for my kids and give them the opportunity to pursue their dreams without having to worry about finances and how the rent is going to be paid (as I had to when I was a kid). The thing about material success is it will never last, something new will always come along. For example when I was a little kid I always wanted a Delorien. At that time that was my idea of success. Imagine now if I pulled up in a 1986 Delorien...I wouldn't appear that successful would I?
ReplyDeleteTerrell love the post! I think we need to go beyond what we see on T.V.; I mean yes, its relevant but am I to allow the media to dictate to me what I want? I don't think so! :) Killa KB you said it best success, happiness and fulfillment in most cases don't come from material things! If you think you are then you will be and if you think you can't you won't....So as a man thinketh so is he!

ReplyDeleteMaterialism yes is a bad thing. Wanting to have nice things...no. There's a thin line between treating yourself to nice things and need to have nice things in order to feel good about yourself.
